At 1:30 am to the South of Paris, la Route des Vignobles, of the Heart of France crosses our region. This road, since mounds limestones of the native of Sancerre up to the bocage of Boischaut, allows to discover the cellars of Centre-Loire and their 5 AOC: Sancerre, Menetou-Salon, Quincy, Reuilly, Côteaux du Giennois. Some words on Sancerre Pieces of writing of 582 indicates the existence of the vineyard. In the XIIè s, it knows a considerable development thanks to the augustins monks of the Abbey of Saint-Satur and to the Counts of Sancerre. Planted essentially there pinot, was destroyed by the phylloxera at the end of the XIXth.. Afterward, the sauvignon, particularly well adapted to the climate, develops. The soil and people will make a wine of the quality of which will be recognized from the 1st decree AOC in 1936. Situated on the borders of the Loire, the vineyard of Sancerre extends over 2 800 ha and 14 villages. And also the famous vineyard of Menetou-Salon Located around Bourges, this vineyard extends over more than 400 hectares from hills on 10 villages, planted on calcareous sediments dating the Upper Jurassic. Menetou-Salon became an AOC in 1959. |
